How to Copy Link to Selected Text on Android (Chrome)

Chrome for Android lets you link directly to a specific sentence on a page, no extension required. Here’s how to copy and share that link.

Want to send someone a link that jumps straight to one specific sentence on a page instead of the whole article? Chrome for Android can do that right from its Share menu, no extension needed.

Google recently introduced a new feature called Text Fragments. Don’t worry about the fancy name. Here is how it works.

We normally share links to a page. If we have to share or highlight a word or a phrase on that page, we use screenshots.

What if you could send a link directly to a word or a sentence? This works similar to sharing a link to a specific point (timestamp) on a YouTube video.

On the desktop version of Chrome, a simple right-click does the job. Here is how to do it on your Android phone.

  1. Select the word or phrase that you want to highlight.
  2. Tap Share.
Select Text to To Share Link
  3. Tap the blue link (chain) icon.
Copy Link to Text on Android
  4. The link is copied to your clipboard. You can now paste and share it.

This trick works on any page in Chrome for Android, so reach for it any time a screenshot won’t quite capture the exact line you want someone to read.
