Almost every website seems to ask permission to send you notifications the moment you land on it. The good news is you can shut these prompts off for good, on both desktop and Android.
Stop Notification Prompts on Chrome for Desktop
Here’s how to stop sites from asking:
- Click the three-dot More menu, then go to Settings.
- Select Privacy and security, then Site Settings.
- Click Notifications.
- Turn off Sites can ask to send notifications to block every request outright, or choose Use quieter messaging to hide the pop-up and show a small icon in the address bar instead.
From this same page, you can also add specific sites to the Allowed to send notifications or Not allowed to send notifications lists if you want to make exceptions.
Stop Notification Prompts on Chrome for Android
On Chrome for Android, open the three-dot menu, tap Settings, then Notifications, then Site Settings. From there you can:
- Ask first: Sites can still ask your permission to show notifications.
- Not allowed: No site can send you notifications.
As with desktop, there’s no option to blanket-allow every site on Android, which is a good thing since that’s the setting most people want to avoid.
Hope that clears things up. Got another annoying Chrome habit you want to switch off? Drop a comment and let us know.
