How to Disable Camera and Microphone Access in Chrome

If you attend video calls using Google Chrome, the browser needs access to your webcam and microphone. However, it is recommended to keep this access turned off for all other websites.

This article explains how to stop websites from accessing webcams and microphones using Google Chrome.

Disable Camera Access for All Websites

To disable camera access for websites:

  1. Click the three-dots settings menu.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. From the left pane, select Privacy and Security.
  4. Select Site Settings.
  5. Under Permissions, select Camera.
  6. Under Default behavior, select Don’t allow sites to use your camera.

Disable Microphone Access on Chrome

To disable microphone access:

  1. Click the three-dots settings menu.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. From the left pane, select Privacy and Security.
  4. Select Site Settings.
  5. Under Permissions, select Microphone.
  6. Under Default behavior, select Don’t allow sites to use your microphone.

You can always add exceptions so that a particular website can access your computer’s microphone or camera.
