How to Delete Downloads on a Chromebook

Downloads Section of Files App

As you go about using your Chromebook, the Downloads folder on your Chromebook might collect files that you do not want to keep any longer. This article explains how to find and delete download files on your Chromebook.

Deleting Downloads on Chromebook

Chrome OS comes with a default Downloads folder. To open the Downloads folder, first open the Files app.

Chromebook Files App in Menu

On the left pane of the Files app, select Downloads.

You can now delete files and folders using the following keyboard shortcut:

ALT + BACKSPACE

You can also right-click and choose Delete.

Remember that the Downloads section stores all local files by default. This includes your screenshots as well. Review all the files and folders carefully before deleting them.

If you delete a file or folder by mistake, you can always retrieve it from the Trash folder.
