How to Turn Off “Resume Your Journey” in Chrome

If you see a “Resume your journey” prompt in Chrome’s address bar, it comes from a feature called Journeys. It groups your browsing history by topic and nudges you to pick up where you left off. Not everyone wants it. Here is how to turn it off.

What Is “Resume Your Journey” in Chrome?

When you start typing in the Chrome address bar, you may see a suggestion that says “Resume your journey” followed by a topic. Chrome is pulling this from Journeys, which organizes your history into research sessions. It is designed to help you continue a search you started earlier.

If you find it distracting or unhelpful, you can disable it from Chrome’s history settings.

How to Turn Off “Resume Your Journey”

1. Open Google Chrome on your computer.
2. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
3. Go to History, then click History again in the submenu.
4. In the left panel, click Journeys.
5. At the top of the Journeys page, toggle off Show Journeys on the History page.

The “Resume your journey” prompt should stop appearing in the address bar after this.

If the Toggle Is Not There

Older versions of Chrome used a flag to control this feature. If you do not see the toggle in History settings, try this instead.

Note: Flags are experimental features and can make Chrome unstable. If Chrome behaves unexpectedly after enabling a flag, return to chrome://flags and click Reset all.

1. Type chrome://flags in your address bar and press Enter.
2. In the search box, type Journeys Omnibox.
3. Set any results that appear to Disabled.
4. Click Relaunch to restart Chrome.

How to Delete a Journey

If you want to remove a specific Journey without turning the whole feature off, you can do that too.

1. Go to chrome://history in a new tab.
2. Click Journeys in the left panel.
3. Find the Journey you want to remove.
4. Click the three-dot menu next to it and select Remove all items.

Good to Know

• Journeys are stored locally on your device and are not linked to your Google account.
• Turning off Journeys does not delete your regular browsing history.
• The feature is only available on Chrome for desktop, not on Android or iPhone.

Once you disable the Journeys feature, Chrome will go back to showing regular history suggestions in the address bar without the “Resume your journey” prompt.
