How to Use “Listen to This Page” in Chrome (Read Aloud)

Chrome has a built-in feature that reads web pages out loud. It is called “Listen to this page” and it works like a podcast player, with controls for speed, pause, and skipping. Here is how to use it.

How to Start “Listen to This Page” in Chrome

1. Open Google Chrome on your computer or Android phone.
2. Go to any text-heavy web page, like a news article or blog post.
3. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
4. Look for Listen to this page in the menu and click it.
5. A media player bar will appear at the bottom of the screen.
6. Press Play to start listening.

Chrome will read the page out loud using a natural-sounding voice. You can keep browsing or switch tabs while it plays.

Playback Controls

The media player bar at the bottom gives you full control over playback:

• Play / Pause to start or stop reading.
• Skip forward or back by 10 seconds using the arrows.
• Speed control lets you read faster or slower. Tap the speed button to cycle through options.
• Voice settings let you change the reading voice or language.

Change the Voice or Language

1. While the player is open, click the Settings icon (gear) in the media bar.
2. Choose a different voice from the list.
3. Select your preferred language if it is not set correctly.

When “Listen to This Page” Does Not Appear

The option is not available on every page. You will not see it on pages that are mostly images, login screens, or sites that block text extraction. If the option is missing from the menu, the page is not supported.

Quick Tips

• The audio keeps playing even if you lock your Android screen.
• “Listen to this page” works in multiple languages, not just English.
• It is available on Chrome for desktop and Chrome on Android. It is not yet available on Chrome for iPhone.

“Listen to this page” is useful for catching up on long reads while you do something else. No extensions or third-party apps required.
