Chrome can send audio from your browser tab directly to a Google Home or Nest speaker on your network. This works for music, podcasts, YouTube audio, and more. Here is how to do it.
Cast Audio from Chrome to a Google Home Speaker
- Make sure your Google Home or Nest speaker is on the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
- Open Google Chrome and go to the page you want to play audio from.
- Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of Chrome.
- Click Save and share, then select Cast.
- A small panel will appear showing nearby cast devices. Click the name of your Google Home or Nest speaker.
- Next to the device name, click the dropdown arrow and select Cast audio instead of “Cast tab”.
- Audio from your tab will now play on the speaker.
Cast a Specific Tab vs. Cast Audio
Chrome gives you two casting options:
- Cast tab sends both audio and video to a Chromecast-connected TV. Your speaker will only receive the audio portion.
- Cast audio sends only the audio track to a speaker like a Google Home Mini or Nest Audio. This is the option you want for speaker-only devices.
Stop Casting
- Click the Cast icon that appears in your Chrome toolbar while casting is active. It looks like a monitor with Wi-Fi waves.
- Click your speaker’s name to stop the cast.
Quick Tips
- If you do not see your speaker in the Cast panel, make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network and the speaker is powered on.
- Volume can be adjusted from the Google Home app on your phone or directly from Chrome’s media controls.
- Casting from Chrome works on Windows, Mac, and Chromebook.
Once you have cast audio from Chrome once, the process becomes quick. Your speaker should appear in the Cast panel within a few seconds every time.
