What is Duckduckgo
If you have never heard of Duckduckgo, (DDG) is an internet search engine. It is not a web browser like Google Chrome. However, DDG or duck or goose search engine as some would love to call it prides itself in giving users’ privacy more importance. It also does not profile its visitors to provide customized results.
According to Gabriel Weinberg, creator of DuckDuckGo, “By default, DuckDuckGo does not collect or share personal information. That is our privacy policy in a nutshell.”
Make Duckduckgo Default Search Engine on Chrome
Google has made it easy to use Duckduckgo as the default search engine on Chrome. Here is how to do this:
- Click the three dots settings icon on the top-right corner of Chrome.
- Choose Settings.
- From the left pane, click Search Engine.
- From the Search engine used in the address bar dropdown, select Duckduckgo.

Your default search engine is now DuckDuckGo. Open a new tab, type in a query into the address bar to test this.
Make DuckDuckGo Default Search Engine on Android
You can make DuckDuckGo your default browser on Chrome for Android too. To do this:
- Tap the three dots settings icon.
- Choose Settings.
- Under Basics, tap Search engine.
- Select DuckDuckGo.
This makes DuckDuckGo your default search engine on Chrome for Android.
DuckDuckGo Extension for Chrome
DuckDuckGo has an official Chrome extension that gives you additional features. If you are a DuckDuckGo fan, this is an extension worth installing.
According to DuckDuckGo, the features of this extension include:

- Search Privately
The extension also adds a toolbar icon that shows you a Privacy Grade rating when you visit a website (A-F). This gives you an overview of how secure the website, with additional details for you to review if required.
