Most of the methods that I found online required us to root the phone. I am skipping all those and moving to non-root methods. Here is my most favorite so far.

Disable Assistant on Google Pixel

Here is how you can disable Google Assistant on your Pixel or Pixel 2 phones. This should work on most Android phones where Assistant is currently available.

  1. Go to Settings > Google > Search
  2. Under “Google Assistant”, tap Settings.
  3. Under “Devices”, click Pixel.
  4. Use the slider to turn off Google Assistant.

Now come back to your home screen and try long-press again. You will see a prompt to enable Google Assistant. This means it has been disabled!

Delete Assistant Activity from Google Account

Now that you have disabled Google Assistant, you might want to delete the Assistant activity or history saved in your Google account. Here is a guide explaining how to delete your Assistant activity

Change System Language to Uninstall Google Assistant

Here is a workaround if the previous method did not work for you.

Google Assistant is not available in all the languages available on your Android phone. This means you can switch to a different language and hide Google Assistant. So, if you are using US English as your system language, try this:

  1. Go to Settings > Languages & input
  2. Click Add Language
  3. Select “English” from the list.
  4. When prompted to choose a region, select the “U.S. Virgin Islands.”

The US Virgin Islands version of English is not very different from US English. So, you may not find it difficult to use on your phone. With this change, however, you will remove Google Assistant, for now.

If your Chromebook supports Google Assistant, chances are that you got it enabled while setting up your device. Now, what if you want to disable Google Assistant?
