Looking for an additional security measure for your Chromebook? Hide login names and photos on your Chromebook’s sign-in screen.
The first step in getting into your account is knowing your username. By hiding your username from the sign-in screen, you add an extra layer of security, since anyone glancing at your Chromebook won’t immediately see who’s signed into it.
This isn’t the most convenient option, but if you’re security-minded, it’s worth turning on.
Here’s how:
- Go to Settings > Security and privacy > Manage other people.
- Turn off Show usernames and photos on the sign-in screen.
- Sign out completely and check your sign-in screen.
You won’t see any accounts listed on the sign-in screen. Enter your email address and password to log in.
If you have two-step verification turned on, you’ll still need to complete that step to sign in.
A couple of things to keep in mind: you need to be the Chromebook’s owner to change this setting, and if your Chromebook is managed for work or school, your administrator may control it instead. Also, this setting only hides your info on the full sign-in screen, not on the lock screen when you’ve just locked an active session.
