Pop-ups can be annoying, distracting, and sometimes even harmful. Microsoft Edge includes a built-in feature to block most pop-ups automatically. If you’re still seeing pop-ups or want to make sure the setting is turned on, here’s how to do it.

How to Block Pop-ups in Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. From the sidebar, click Cookies and site data.
  5. Select All permissions.Edge Permissions
  6. Scroll down and click Pop-ups and redirects.
  7. Make sure the switch is toggled on next to Block (recommended).

Once this setting is enabled, most pop-ups will be blocked automatically.

How to Allow Pop-ups from Specific Sites

Sometimes you need pop-ups—for example, on banking sites or secure portals. Here’s how to allow pop-ups only for certain websites:

  1. Go to Settings > Cookies and site permissions > All permissions > Pop-ups and redirects.
  2. Under Allow, click Add.
  3. Type the URL of the site where you want to allow pop-ups.
  4. Click Add.

This lets that site show pop-ups while blocking others.

What to Do If Pop-ups Still Appear

If you’ve blocked pop-ups in Edge but still see them, try these steps:

  • Check for extensions: Some extensions might be causing pop-ups. Go to edge://extensions and disable any you don’t recognize.
  • Run a security scan: Pop-ups can also come from malware. Use Microsoft Defender or another trusted antivirus to scan your system.
  • Clear browsing data: Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data > Choose what to clear. Select Cached images and files and Cookies.

How to Block Pop-ups on Edge Mobile

On your iPhone or Android device:

  1. Open the Edge app.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu at the bottom (iPhone) or top (Android).
  3. Tap Settings > Privacy and security > Site permissions.
  4. Tap Pop-ups and redirects.
  5. Make sure it’s blocked.

This prevents most pop-ups while you browse on your phone.

Microsoft Edge makes it easy to block unwanted pop-ups while letting you control access on a site-by-site basis.
