Clearing the cache in Microsoft Edge can help fix website issues, speed up your browser, and free up storage space. Here’s how to do it.
Clear Cache Using the Settings Menu
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right corner.
- Select Settings.
- In the left sidebar, click Privacy, search, and services.
- Scroll down to Clear browsing data and click Choose what to clear.
- In the Time range dropdown, pick how far back you want to go—Last hour, Last 24 hours, All time, etc.
- Make sure Cached images and files is selected.
- Click Clear now.

Edge will remove cached files. This won’t delete your passwords or browsing history unless you select those options too.
Use a Shortcut to Clear Cache Faster
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete (Windows) or Command+Shift+Delete (Mac).
- The Clear browsing data panel opens immediately.
- Choose your time range and check Cached images and files.
- Click Clear now.
This is a quick way to clear the cache without going through menus.
What Happens When You Clear Cache
- Edge removes stored versions of websites.
- Some sites may load more slowly the first time you visit again.
- You may need to re-enter login information if you also clear cookies.
Bonus Tip: Set Edge to Clear Cache Automatically
- Open Settings > Privacy, search, and services.
- Scroll to Clear browsing data on close.
- Click Choose what to clear every time you close the browser.
- Toggle on Cached images and files.
Now Edge will automatically clear the cache when you close it.
