Try these troubleshooting steps if Chrome is not working on your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro:

  1. Check if Chrome Works in Guest Mode
    a. Log out of your main macOS account
    b. Log in as a guest or another user
    c. Open Chrome and see if it stays open
If it works there, the problem is likely with your user profile or settings
  2. Clear Chrome’s User Profile Data
Remeber: This might reset/delete your Chrome data. Please do this step only if you have a backup of your data, for example, Chromesync.
    a. Press Command + Space and search for Terminal
    b. Type:
bashCopyEditrm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Google/Chrome

c. Press Enter
d. Reopen Chrome—this resets it, so you’ll need to sign back in

  1. Remove and Reinstall Chrome
    a. Drag Chrome from the Applications folder to the Trash
    b. Go to ~/Library/Application Support/Google/ and delete the Chrome folder
    c. Empty the Trash
    d. Re-download Chrome from the official site and reinstall
  2. Boot into Safe Mode and Test
    a. Shut down your Mac
    b. Turn it on and immediately hold down the Shift key
    c. Release when you see the login screen
    d. Open Chrome in Safe Mode
If it works, the issue may be with another app or system extension
  3. Check for Chrome Updates (If You Can Get It to Stay Open)
    a. Click the three-dot menu in Chrome
    b. Go to Help > About Google Chrome
    c. It will check for updates automatically
If it crashes before you can do this, skip to the reinstall step
  4. Run Disk Utility to Repair Your Mac’s Drive
    a. Open Spotlight and type Disk Utility
    b. Select your main disk and click “First Aid”
    c. Let it complete and then restart your Mac
  5. Create a New macOS User Profile
    a. Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups
    b. Add a new user
    c. Log into that account and try Chrome there
