If Chrome crashes when you click Help > About Google Chrome, it’s likely due to a problem with updates, extensions, or your user profile. This page normally checks for updates, so the issue might be tied to that process.
Try the steps below to fix the problem:
1. Restart Your Computer
- Close Chrome completely.
- Restart your computer.
- Open Chrome and try going to Help > About Google Chrome again.
2. Open Chrome Without Extensions

- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type:
chrome.exe --disable-extensions - Press Enter.
- Go to Help > About Google Chrome.
- If it works, one of your extensions is causing the crash.
3. Clear Chrome’s Cache

- Open Chrome.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete to open Clear Browsing Data.
- Select Cached images and files.
- Click Clear data.
- Restart Chrome and check Help > About Google Chrome.
4. Create a New User Profile

- Close Chrome.
- Press Windows + R and type:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\ - Rename the Default folder to BackupDefault.
- Reopen Chrome.
- Try going to Help > About Google Chrome.
5. Reinstall Chrome
- Uninstall Chrome from your system.
- Download the latest version from google.com/chrome.
- Reinstall it.
- Open Chrome and try accessing Help > About Google Chrome.
If the issue still happens, check for system updates or malware that could be interfering with Chrome.
