How to Scan Documents Using Chromebook Camera

If you have a Chromebook, you can use the camera app to scan documents. In this article, I will show you how to this document scanning feature.

You might have heard that you can connect a scanner to your Chromebook. Did you, however, know that you can scan documents using your Chromebook’s camera?

Let me show you how.

Open the Camera app.

From the bottom row of icons, choose Scan.

When you open the Scan section for the first time, you will see a welcome screen.

Choose Document.

You are now ready to scan your document. Point your Chromebook camera at the document or paper you want to scan.

Your Chromebook will now detect the document. Tap the camera shutter icon (circle) to scan the document.

Now, your Chromebook will scan the document and provide a .PNG file.

The scanning feature is useful to quickly scan documents, receipts, or other paperwork and store it in the cloud.

  1. The scan and portrait options not there on my lenovo flex 5 Chromebook running v93.

    Just got video, photo, square. Any ideas why?

    1. Same problem here on my school chromebooks. Scan option is present.

    Sorry, I thought this feature has been around for a while. Looks like this is a “work-in-progress” currently available only in Dev and Canary channel. Please check your Chromebook camera app after few more weeks.
