Facebook Displaying as a Tiny Page in Chrome (Windows) – Fix

If Facebook suddenly appears shrunken to a microscopic size while all other websites look normal, you’ve likely triggered a browser-level or hardware-acceleration glitch rather than a zoom issue. This article explains how to restore Facebook to its normal view in Google Chrome on Windows.

1. Check if the problem is limited to your Chrome profile

If Facebook works normally in Incognito mode, the issue is most likely tied to your main Chrome profile’s cache, settings, or extensions.

  1. Open Chrome and click your profile icon (top right).
  2. Select “Guest” or “Add” to open a fresh profile.
  3. Visit facebook.com.

If it looks normal here, the problem is in your main profile. You can reset it without losing your data (explained below).

2. Reset Chrome’s zoom and display settings

Even though zoom isn’t the main cause, it’s best to reset all related settings.

  1. Go to Chrome’s menu (three dots) > Settings > Appearance.
  2. Under “Page zoom,” set it to 100%.
  3. Press Ctrl + 0 while on Facebook to ensure zoom resets.
  4. Check Font size and make sure it’s set to “Medium (recommended).”

3. Disable hardware acceleration

Hardware acceleration can occasionally cause pages to render incorrectly, especially after display or driver updates.

  1. Go to chrome://settings/system.
  2. Turn off Use hardware acceleration when available.
  3. Click Relaunch to restart Chrome.

Revisit Facebook and check if the display returns to normal.

4. Clear Facebook-specific site data

Corrupted site data can cause rendering problems.

  1. Visit facebook.com.
  2. Click the lock icon in the address bar.
  3. Select Site settings.
  4. Click Clear data and then Reset permissions.
  5. Reload the page.

5. Disable extensions that alter webpage display

Some extensions (especially PDF readers, ad blockers, or custom script injectors) can conflict with Facebook’s layout.

  1. Go to chrome://extensions/.
  2. Temporarily turn off all extensions.
  3. Refresh Facebook.

If it displays correctly, re-enable extensions one by one to identify the culprit.

6. Reset Chrome to default settings

If nothing works, restore Chrome’s default state.

  1. Go to chrome://settings/reset.
  2. Select Restore settings to their original defaults.
  3. Confirm by clicking Reset settings.

Your bookmarks, passwords, and browsing history will remain, but all site data and preferences will reset.

7. Reinstall Chrome (if issue persists)

If the problem continues even after a reset, reinstalling Chrome ensures no damaged files remain.

  1. Uninstall Chrome via Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Download the latest version of Chrome from google.com/chrome.
  4. Sign in again to sync your bookmarks and settings.

Summary

This issue usually happens due to a rendering error triggered by key combinations or hardware acceleration. The quickest temporary fix is to use Incognito mode, but a full solution involves clearing site data, turning off hardware acceleration, or resetting Chrome. Once you perform these steps, Facebook should display normally again across your main profile.
