How to Make Chrome Automatically Delete Browsing History

If you want Chrome to automatically clear your browsing history, you can set it up using built-in features or by signing into your Google Account and adjusting privacy settings. Here’s how to do it on desktop and mobile.

Delete Chrome History

Method 1: Use Auto-Delete in Google Account

This method deletes history saved to your Google Account, which includes activity from Chrome when you’re signed in with sync on.

  1. Open myactivity.google.com and sign in.
  2. From the left pane, select Activity Control.
  3. Select Web & App Activity.
  4. Select Auto-delete.
  5. Choose how long you want to keep activity (e.g., 3, 18, or 36 months).
  6. Click Next and confirm to turn on auto-delete.

Google will now automatically delete older browsing history based on your selection.

Method 2: Use Incognito Mode

If you want all browsing history to disappear after each session:

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu.
  3. Select New Incognito Window.

In Incognito mode, Chrome doesn’t save browsing history, cookies, or form data.

Method 3: Use Chrome Extensions (Desktop Only)

To auto-delete local history (not stored in your Google Account), you can use an extension like:

  • History AutoDelete
  • Auto History Wipe

To install an extension:

  1. Go to chrome.google.com/webstore.
  2. Search for the extension.
  3. Click Add to Chrome.
  4. Set it up to clear history on browser exit or at specific intervals.

Note: Remember to review extensions before installing them. Extensions are thirdparty software, in most cases. Periodically review your extensions and remove any unwanted extensions or apps.

Method 4: Manually Clear History on Exit (Mobile Only)

There’s no built-in option to auto-delete on desktop Chrome, but mobile Chrome for Android allows clearing data on exit.

  1. Open Chrome on Android.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu > Settings.
  3. Go to Privacy and security > Clear browsing data.
  4. Tap “Clear on exit”.
  5. Select the types of data you want cleared (e.g., browsing history, cookies).
  6. Turn on Clear on exit.

Note: This feature is not yet available on iOS.
