If you can’t hear any sound from Google Chrome on your Windows PC, you’re not alone. This guide explains how to troubleshoot and fix the issue step by step.

1. Check Volume Mixer in Windows
Chrome may be muted individually.
- Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar
- Select Open Volume Mixer
- Make sure the slider for Google Chrome is not muted or at zero
2. Confirm Site Is Not Muted
You might have muted a tab accidentally.
- Right-click the Chrome tab where you expect sound
- If you see Unmute site, click it
3. Restart Chrome
Sometimes, simply closing and reopening Chrome fixes audio glitches.
- Close all Chrome windows
- Wait a few seconds
- Reopen Chrome and test sound
4. Test in Incognito Mode
This helps check if extensions are causing the issue.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + N to open an Incognito window
- Visit the same site and check if sound works
If it does, try disabling extensions one by one.

- Go to
chrome://extensions - Turn off extensions and test sound again
5. Check Chrome Sound Settings
Chrome lets you control sound permissions for sites.
- Click the lock icon in the address bar
- Go to Site settings
- Make sure Sound is set to Allow
6. Check Output Device
Your computer might be sending sound to the wrong audio device.
- Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar
- Select Sound settings
- Make sure the correct output device is selected
- Scroll down and check App volume and device preferences
- Ensure Chrome is set to the right output
7. Update Audio Drivers
Outdated or broken drivers may cause sound issues.
- Open Device Manager
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers
- Right-click your audio driver and select Update driver
8. Reset Chrome

If nothing else works, reset Chrome settings.
- Go to
chrome://settings/reset - Click Restore settings to their original defaults
- Click Reset settings
This won’t delete bookmarks or passwords.
9. Reinstall Chrome
As a last resort, reinstall Chrome.
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps
- Find Chrome, click the three dots, then Uninstall
- Restart your computer
- Download and install Chrome again from google.com/chrome
