Google Adds ‘AI Mode’ to Chrome’s New Tab Page

AI Mode is the next stage in the evolution of Google search. Google recently announce that they will roll out an AI mode within search, letting you chat with Gemini and get answers.

Chrome now has an AI Mode button on the new tab page, right on the search bar. Here is how it looks like:

AI mode is not 100% functional yet. For now, it opens an “Ask anything” box which does not work.

I am staring at this box for now, wondering how the AI mode experience will be. It will work like the search mode in Gemini and Chat GPT for sure. However, with a tight intergration with Chrome, AI mode can do much more.

For example, here is a video about Dia, an AI-first browser that The Browser Company is working on:

I am imaginging doing “@” calls at tabs and the entire browser session to ask questions and maybe even get some tasks done.

Do you have any such ideas on how Google might integrate AI mode with Chrome? Let me know in the comments section below.

If you are interested in testing this new feature, look for NTP Composebox flags in the Canary channel.
