Google Search is more than a tool — it’s full of surprises. Type the right words, and it’ll do something unexpected. These are called easter eggs, and they’re fun, weird, and worth checking out. Here are some of my favorites.

Google in 1998 - Google Search Easter Egg

1. Search a Font Name and Watch It Change

Type a font name like Comic Sans, Helvetica, or Courier New into Google.
The entire search result switches to that font.
Works for many popular fonts.

Comic Sans wasn’t fun, I tell you.

2. Do a Barrel Roll

Search do a barrel roll.
The whole page spins around once.
Just for fun.

3. Askew

Type askew or tilt.
The search results page shifts slightly.
A bit off-center — on purpose.

4. Google Gravity

Search Google Gravity, then click “I’m Feeling Lucky”.
Everything drops down.
You can toss stuff around the screen.

5. Zerg Rush

Type zerg rush, then press Enter.
Tiny O’s attack your search results.
Click to defend!

6. Atari Breakout

Search Atari Breakout in Google Images.
The images turn into a playable game.
Use your arrow keys to play.

7. Google in 1998

Search Google in 1998.
You’ll see a retro version of Google’s original homepage.
Nostalgic and simple.

8. Anagram

Search anagram.
Google asks, “Did you mean: nag a ram?”
Yes, it’s an anagram of “anagram”.

9. Recursion

Search recursion.
Google says, “Did you mean: recursion?”
Click it — and it loops again and again.

10. Once in a Blue Moon

Search once in a blue moon.
Google calculates an actual frequency.
Rare phrase, rare result.

11. What Sound Does a Dog Make?

Search what sound does a dog make.
Google plays the sound.
Try with other animals, too.

12. Conway’s Game of Life

Search Conway’s Game of Life.
Watch cells evolve in real-time on screen.
A nod to computer science fans.

13. Flip a Coin / Roll a Dice

Type flip a coin or roll a dice.

Great for quick decisions.

14. Spinner

Search spinner.
Get a number spinner or switch to fidget mode.
Customizable and smooth.

15. Pac-Man

Search Pac-Man.
Click and play the classic game right on the results page.
Arcade nostalgia in seconds.

16. Google Guitar

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. In the address bar, go to https://elgoog.im/guitar.
  3. Wait for the page to load. You’ll see the familiar Google guitar logo with playable strings.

17. Batman Easter Egg

  1. Open Google Search in Chrome or any browser.
  2. Type “Bruce Wayne” or “Gotham City” in the search bar.
  3. On the right side of the results page, look for the Bat-Signal icon in the info panel.
  4. Click the Bat-Signal.
  5. Watch the Bat-Signal flash across the screen and Batman glide in.

This works on both desktop and mobile versions of Google Search.

18. Google’s Black Hole Easter Egg

  1. Open Google Search in your browser.
  2. Type “Google Gravity” and hit search.
  3. Click on the result that says “Google Gravity – Mr. Doob” (usually the top link).
  4. Once the page loads, wait a moment for the black hole to appear.
  5. Click the black hole, and watch as all the elements on the screen get sucked into it.

This Easter egg works best on desktop browsers. It’s a fun demo and safe to try.

How to Play the Guitar Doodle

  • Using your mouse: Hover over and click the guitar strings to pluck them.
  • Using your keyboard: Press keys to play different notes and chords. It supports many standard keys for melody and harmony.
  • To record: Click the small record button (circle icon) below the guitar.
  • To playback: After recording, click the play button (triangle icon).

You can record up to 30 seconds of music. The playback feature repeats your melody until you stop it.

Summary

Try any of these in your browser and enjoy what Google Search can do beyond just giving answers. Got a favorite one? Let your readers know in the comments.
