Do you use Chrome’s ‘touch to fill’ to log into websites? If yes, here is some news for you. Soon, you will be re-authenticated before the password is entered into the website.

In other words, Chrome could ask you to tap that fingerprint sensor one time before entering your password into a website.

Biometric reauth for password filling

If you are on the desktop version of Chrome, it asks you to re-enter your password only when you are about to view a saved password. Chrome does not ask you to enter your Google account password everytime you log into a website with a saved password.

On Android, you might soon see such a feature for added security. Biometric authentication, however, is easy to use. You could simply tap your fingerprint sensor to approve a login.

Will we see this as an optional feature on desktop version of Chrome? It will be a good addition for laptops and Chromebooks with fingerprint sensors.

Anyways, Google has added a new experimental flag to Chrome to test this feature:

Biometric reauth for password filling: Enables biometric re-authentication before password filling.

We should be able to test this on the Canary channel version of Chrome soon. Check back later for more screenshots.
