Approve Google Drive Access Requests Directly from Chromebook Notification

You can now approve Google Drive access requests using a single click from the Chromebook notification area.

Google Drive Access Request Notifications

Soon after I shared the news about an upcoming change to Google Drive sharing from the Files app, my friend Mike pinged me on Twitter with this.

If someone requests access to any of your Google Drive files, Chrome OS will show a notification. You can now click this notification to approve this access request.

No need to open Google Drive or Gmail to approve this request.

But, Be Careful

This feature is indeed useful. However, I have a word of caution.

I have seen requests from random accounts requesting access to files on my Google Drive. I do not know what triggers this and how they got the URL for the shared file.

It is easy to simply click “Give access”. Do review the access request before approving.

Now, what do you think of this new feature? Do you agree with me here on the need to be cautious while approving requests?

Let me know in the comments section below.

(Thanks again, Mike).
