Over the years, I have seen many “New Tab Page” experiments on Chrome. Google never stopped playing with the NTP on desktop or mobile. Here is the latest, from Chrome on Android, Canary version:
Do We Really Need This?
I like the idea of recommended articles on the new tab page. I have, however, disabled it because I get almost the same list on my phone’s launcher. I can simply swipe from left to right to see these recommendations.
This new list, however, looks very spammy to me. It, for some strange reason, reminds me of Yahoo! homepage.
The list looks customized for my location. I see a lot of websites from India here. It will be interesting to see how your “top sites” list looks like. Hit me up in the comments section and if possible, post your screenshots so that we can compare. I have the following categories:
- Social
- Entertainment
- Sports
- News
- Shopping
- Reference
- Banking
- Government
- Travel
- Education
- Jobs
This feature is currently available in the Canary version of Chrome on Android. I am not quite sure if this will graduate to the Stable channel.
What do you think of this idea? Do you like it?
