Opera Adds Chromecast Support In Their Latest Developer Release

The latest Developer build of Opera has added Chromecast support. It might take a few weeks before all Opera users get to use it, but this is getting ready.

Chromecasting from Opera is not a straightforward thing at the moment. You can install Chrome extensions on Opera, so you can install Google Cast extension. However, I do not see anyone reporting that it works as expected.

Chromecast Support

And now we have official support incoming! Opera blog writes:

Maybe not as much expected as the RSS feature, but still very important – today, we are also offering Chromecast finally working in this developer version. Specifically, when you install the Google Cast extension from the store and have the special device attached to your display and operating in the same Wi-Fi network, the device should be detected and sending links should work.

If you are interested in trying this out, Chromecast support has landed in version 40.0.2296.0  of Opera. Here is where you can download them from:

  • Opera developer for Windows
  • Opera developer for Windows x64 – experimental
  • Opera developer for Mac
  • Opera developer for 32-bit Linux – deb file
  • Opera developer for 64-bit Linux – deb file
  • Opera developer for 32-bit Linux – RPM file
  • Opera developer for 64-bit Linux – RPM file

If you are a Chromecast fan with Opera as your primary browser, go ahead and try this out. Don’t forget to drop me a comment about your experience and initial thoughts.
