Compal and RGS Launch Two New Chromebooks for Schools

If you heard those two names for the first time, you are not alone. I had to do a bit of Googling to get to know these companies a little.

Atlas from Compal

Compal Electronics is a Taiwanese original design manufacturer, handling the production of notebook computers, monitors and televisions for a variety of clients around the world, including Acer, Lenovo… Wikipedia.

Compal is bringing a  11.6-inch Chromebook for schools with a unique design. There is an LED strip on the front of the screen which will show Wifi signal strength (I am not sold on that idea!). We do not have any other details on this Chromebook other than this picture of the Chromebook.

We will have to wait for the company to reveal more details or make them available on etailers or retailers. More on that soon.

RGS Chromebook

The RGS Chromebook looks like a Intel Reference Design Chromebook twin. A company that we are not familiar with, a Chromebook that looks a lot like a reference device, and specs that are similar to most of the Chromebooks available in the market. Well, you get the idea. Curious about the specs? Here we go:

  • 11.6-inch LCD HD display (1366×768 pixels)
  • Intel Celeron N2930 (quad core, 2.16 GHz)
  • 4GB RAM
  • 16GB SSD
  • Dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11 ac)
  • Bluetooth 4.0

Here is how it looks like:

I am not excited. However, we will have to wait for reviews and pricing details to say anything about future of such devices.
