Named “Pin Tab”, this feature lets you reduce the width of each tab, by showing only the favoicon of the page, and not the page name. I will explain this in detail.
Before we start, let me tell you what a favicon is, it is a small ( really small ) icon that will be shown next to the website’s name or webpage’s title, on each browser tab. ( provided, the website has its own favicon. ). For example, if you look at the tab of chromestory.com now, the default favicon is show, which is a small image of a traditional paper sheet.
Pin Tab, when enabled, will show only this favoicon image, and not the title of the page, and that will reduce the width of the tab, in to less than 1 Cm.
To enable this feature, all you need to do is, right click on the tab and select “Pin Tab” from the bottom. Since you can enable or disable this feature for individual tabs, you can actually pin some regularly used tabs like your email, and save some space.

Now, that’s more freedom, isn’t it ? Apart from making the new tab pages more user friendly and useful, the looks have improved a lot, and now looks really soft on eyes. I really love to see if this has happened on linux version too, but unfortunately, my linux laptop died recently, and I should take it to the service center, and once that’s back, I will have news for Linux people also.

A few facts about Chrome Extensions, as seen on the web and Google websites.
Extensions will stick to the minimal nature of Chrome browser itself.
Extensions will appear on the bottom of the browser.
Google will manage all extensions
Extensions will run as separate processes ( like tabs, and you will see them on chrome task manager)
Just like the browser, extensions also will be updated without the user even knowing about it.
No need to restart the browser after you install an extension
There will be a new extensions gallery set up for Chrome
extensions are collections of web pages that use HTML, JavaScript, CSS, so they’re not difficult to write
Chromestory.com and Extensions
I will take few extensions and play wit them using my dev version, and will give you more information about them, before they are officially announced. Also, you will get to see news and tips and more about Chrome Extensions on Chromestory.com in coming days. So, Stay tuned ! Subscribe today !!
Okay, I had promised you that I will let you all know about a feature that I noticed on the Development version that I am running on my laptop. Here it is … hopefully with next update, you will be able to reopen tabs from your last browsing session when you open Google Chrome window.
This is not a prediction or rumor, but something that I am using right now on this dev version of Google Chrome. If I close my Chrome window, with few tabs open, and then open Chrome again, I get something like this, shown on the screenshot below.
I can click and open all those tabs from my last browsing session, and that is really helpful. Especially because of another feature missing on Google Chrome : It won’t warn you when you close multiple tabs. So, you accidentally close 10 tabs because you got no warning, re open the window, and you get this cool feature to open all those tabs again.
This is to open all the tabs together. If you like to open only the last tab you closed, use CTRL + SHIFT + T keyboard short cut.

A security issue was reported on Google Chrome, which could be used for “cross-website scripting attacks”. No worries, Google has already has a new version of Chrome which fixes this issue. Here is another happy news, you don’t need to update chrome, Google Chrome will automatically update to the new version, you just need to restart it to take effect.
Here is more on the security issue.
In a blog posting, Mark Larson, Google Chrome program manager, wrote:
“An error in handling URLs with a chromehtml: protocol could allow an attacker to run scripts of his choosing on any page or enumerate files on the local disk under certain conditions.”
“If a user has Google Chrome installed, visiting an attacker-controlled web page in Internet Explorer could have caused Google Chrome to launch, open multiple tabs, and load scripts that run after navigating to a URL of the attacker’s choice. Such an attack only works if Chrome is not already running.”
Now, just double check to make sure that your Google Chrome installation is up to date, and feel safe ! If you do not know how to check if Google Chrome version is up to date, here is ChromeStory’s post on this. Questions ? Drop me a comment !!
