Here is another Google Chrome Extension by Mr. G himself. A small but really useful extension for those use dictionary while surfing the web. Like me !

With this extension, you can Double-click any word to view its definition in a small pop-up bubble and view the complete definition of any word or phrase using the address bar dictionary.

Google Wave Notifier Extension for Google Chrome

I know, I know .. the initial buzz about google wave is over. But, it may come back and become mainstream, lets hope so … If you are someone who is still using Google Wave, here is an extension that works similar to Gmail notifier.

You will have a small notification icon on the toolbar showing number of unread Waves in your Google Wave inbox. This is really useful for people who no longer visit their Wave accounts. You will not miss any waves if you ever get any ! You will always have this notification on your toolbar if you are logged in to your Google account, which we always do almost all the times.

The extension allows you to :
- See unread waves without opening Wave in a popup.
- Access to a specific wave directly from the popup of the extension.
- Choose icons you want to see from different sets of icons.
- Specify your preferred refresh rate.
- Specify your Google Apps domain if you’re using Wave with Google Apps.
- Open Google Wave with navigation, contacts and search box hidden if you want.

Google Chrome OS ‘business version’ coming in 2011

Google Seems to be following Microsoft way of launching different versions of Operating systems. Just like Windows 7 Home, and Windows 7 Professional etc, Google Chrome OS also will see a business version.

Speaking at this week’s RSA Conference, Google software security engineer Will Drewry revealed that Google will be releasing a “business version” of Chrome OS for netbooks sometime in 2011. It will offer more “management muscle” than the consumer version.

Google is aiming at the it’s business customers who are using Google Apps for email docs and all other cloud based computing services. First Google gave them servers and software. Now, they will sell computers or laptops to use them too ! good job Google !!

Picnik acquisition and Google Chrome OS

Google recently acquired cloud based photo editing app Picnik.com.This tool is going to be a huge win for Chrome OS. Every netbook that uses the operating system will have full access to a really good photo editor — something you traditionally needed a desktop client for.

Picnik is an online photo editing tool. It is easy to use and does some awesome things with your freshly clicked photographs. After you upload a photo to flickr, you can click on “edit” and access picnik services from the same page. You can use this service from picnik.com even if you do not have a flickr account.

I love editing photos with picnik. Its easy and works really, really well. Correcting light and exposure, adding some extra effects of colors, text, or some funny stuff … picnik has a lot to offer.

Things will be more interesting if google makes those pretty awesome premium features of picnik.com free, like they usually do with all the companies they acquire. If that happens along with the Chrome OS launch, Picnik will be one of the most favorite apps for Chrome OS users. Welcome Picnik, to Chrome OS !!

Google Voice Extension for Chrome

Google is developing Chrome extensions for most of their services. Here is one of them, Google Chrome Extension for Google Voice.

Features

- Adds a button to the toolbar, which displays the number of unread messages in your Google Voice inbox.
- Audible alert on new messages (can turn off in extension options).
- Gives you quick access to your most recent messages with transcripts and voicemail playback.
- Lets you initiate calls and send free text messages by just typing any number or contact name.
- Makes phone numbers on websites callable via Google Voice by just clicking on them.
- If a phone number doesn’t turn into a link on any website (ex: Google Calendar), you can select the text with your mouse and the click to call popup will automatically display (note: might not work with all numbers).

Parallels to Support Chrome OS on Mac OSX VM

Parellels a company that helps Mac users run Windows and Linux on virtual machine environments has announced that they will support chrome os on their software.

Mac users will be able to run Chrome Os inside their OSX machines using the Virtual machine technology provided by Parallels.

“There is already a huge amount of interest in Google’s new OS, even though it’s still just in beta, so we want to make sure our customers can try it out on their Macs without impacting their primary work environment on Mac OS X,” said Kim Johnston, Vice President of Marketing for Consumer, Business and Online at Parallels

So, Mac users, get ready for Chrome OS experience inside your OSX Macbook or iMac

Awesome Extension ! – Replace Ads in Gmail with Social Media Profile of the Sender

UK-based start up called Rapportive has created an awesome Extension for Both Firefox and Google Chrome, which replaces the advertisement space in Gmail inbox with social media profile of the user whom you are interacting with, on that email.

Rapportive adds dynamic contact previews to Gmail complete with profile picture, brief bio and links to their various social networking profiles. Part social, part CRM, Rapportive also features a minimalist notes area directly under the social profiles section of the sidebar.

Yes, I understand your concern. Now, here is what readwriteweb.com has to say about the security or privacy aspect of this new plugin wonder.

You don’t need to give Rapportive your Gmail credentials, the service asks you to login via secure Google Federated Login, or OpenID. The startup doesn’t have access to your password, but it does access the contents of your email – that’s how it builds a service for you to use. Any browser extension has access to everything you do on the web, but I expect some people will feel a little nervous about installing a webmail related extension from a small company. I don’t think that concern is warranted enough to justify missing out on this awesome service. Source

According to Readwriteweb.com who were excited enough to ask their readers to “stop what you are doing and install this extension”, the new startup is building services making inbox as a platform.

I am sure that Google will Buy This Company Too

1. This is an awesome service which will see thousands of followers in coming days.

2. Even though ads inside gmail inbox is not Google’s revenue system, Google will not be happy about users removing ads with the help of a simple extension. They will buy this company, and include this service in gmail without hurting their income source.
