Google Chrome Adds RSS feed support, as an extension

Chrome RSS Extension

Chrome RSS Extension

The first thing I complained about Google Chrome was the lack of RSS feed icon on the address bar.  When I am on a page, or a blog, an RSS feed icon next to the site URL is the easiest way to subscribe to the RSS feed. While using Chrome, I had to copy paste the URL of the website or blog to Google Reader, and subscribe from there.

Not anymore !

Google has introduced a new extension, which will come pre-installed in Google Chrome. The extension “adds a button to the URL bar when a page has a feed that can be subscribed to”. When you click on the orange button, the extension previews the feed and it lets you subscribe using a feed reader.

Since extensions are already working on the Development version of Google Chrome, and was recently pushed to beta versions too, we will soon see extensions working on your browser  too. Things will be more interesting with Extensions  support !

Google Chrome Version 3.0

The latest update from Google Chrome team, is showing version number as 3.0.x, on the Dev version of Google Chrome on my laptop. So, I would guess that Google Chrome team is busy developing version 3.0 of Google Chrome.

So, Extensions on Chrome 3.0 ?

Yes, extensions are already working on Dev versions of Google Chrome. However, it needs an additional step ( adding –enable-extensions to your target code ) at the moment. Why ? Because, the extensions UI ( user interface ) is not ready yet.

When extensions UI is ready, you will simply need to click on extensions that you need from Chrome’s extension gallery, in order to install them. So, Extensions are almost there, and Google versions started showing 3.0 already, what does that say ? Google Chrome Version 3.0 = Extensions ?

Google ToolBar

There are news about Google Chrome Toolbar being developed buy few people on the web. However, most of Google services are inbuilt in to the Chrome Browser, and for others, there are official extensions available. Click here to find the full list.

Since we don’t believe in providing news about “fake” plugins, its not posted here. However, Chromestory will be tracking news about official extensions and themes, they are ready.

But, there is one question, is Google actively developing and maintaining Google Toolbar these days ? Or, am I missing th show here ? I have a feeling that they are not concerned about google toolbar anymore. If they were that much interested, we would have seen Google toolbar along with very first release of Google Chrome.

It is also possible that Google is developing a very different version of Chrome Toolbar, to make it unique from other browsers ? May be it is making it look better, and work better with google chrome ? I feel this way because I never liked google toolbar, and used only google pagerank checked from it. It was making my browser slow, and look bad.  With chrome tool bar, they may try something different

What do you think ? Will you be installing chrome toolbar if they ever release it ? Do you think it will be a good idea for Google Chrome team to release a chrome toolbar ?

Until now, there was no  option for you to let a website load popups, always. All popups were blocked, and you will open those windows manually, from the bottom of the page. Now, here is a visual guide to it, to help you understand this better.  Here is how it looked like before the update.
