An year after it’s first release, Google Chrome has a new stable release today, with a long list of new features and improvements. Let’s take a look at what they are.
Before we start, let me tell you something, if you have are a regular reader of ChromeStory.com, none of these features will be news to you, because I always bring you the latest news on new features, while it is still being developed. But still, if you were not using Dev or Beta version of Chrome, it will be fun to go through them again, and start using these cool features ! So, read on.
Faster Page Loading and Java
I have experienced this difference ever since I started using Google Chrome, and it got better day by day. For me, this is the fastest application on my desktop, which starts within a second when Clicked. And on Java script processing, this version is 150% better than the very first release of Google Chrome. Speed really matters when you are online, so you can’t ignore Google Chrome’s achievement here. Kudos !
Sexy New Tab Pages.
You know what’s the best thing about Google Chrome that I love ? Its this : When Google Chrome first came out, most of the complaints and criticisms I heard was about the new tab page, showing the most visited websites to everyone, no option to re order or remove something from there etc. Now, this very new tab page is the most appreciated feature of Google Chrome.
Why ? Some serious work has gone in to the design and abilities of this page. Now you can remove websites from this page, re order, make them a list, and more. Read all about it here, my old post here.
Themes !!
Yes, themes are now available for all Google Chrome users. If you are looking for a change, try them !. It’s really easy to change the theme here. Go to the Theme Gallery, and click on “apply theme” link next to the theme of your choice, and you are done ! You can always go back to the default theme if you want to.
HTML5 capabilities
HTML 5 is being added to Chrome with this release. In Google’s Words,
We’re very excited about HTML5 becoming standard in modern browsers, and continued to add HTML5 capabilities to this stable release. We’re particularly excited about the <video> tag in HTML5, which makes embedding videos in a page as simple as embedding regular images. The <video> tag also allows video playback without a plug-in
So, here is what you should do now, share this information with your non-chroming friend, and make them use Google chrome

I found many people searching for google toolbar support for google chrome, and wondering why, it is not added to google chrome yet, both being Google’s projects and very popular at that.
However, Google Is Bringing a lot of feature of Google Toolbar to Chrome by default. Very soon, we will have the translation inbuilt to chrome via a Translation Bar and for others, there are official extensions available. Click here to find the full list. You can try this extension too
I also had no idea why this is so. But when I was uninstalling Google Toolbar from firefox, I kinda figured out why it is not there on Chrome yet.
Fact that we all know : We love the simple layout of Google Chrome for many reasons, and the most important reason : It gives more screen space. Google Chrome is designed to give you a better browsing experience, as far as space is concerned, and they have done this very well, and that does not come very easily … I am sure they have worked very hard on this.
If you have noticed, when Extensions are enabled, Google Chrome will not let them take more space from your screen area, that’s how they are making the extensions work too.
All this hard work, and they add Google Tool Bar to Chrome … then it will look a MESS !!
because it consumes so much from the screenspace… correct people ? Well, that should be the reason for Chrome still being away from Google Toolbar.
What Makes Me Think This Way
When you uninstall Google Toolbar on Firefox, you are supposed to tell them why you are doing that, a feedback . And one among the most common reasons listed for you to select from is, ” It’s Taking My Screen Space” ( or something similar ? ). So, I would say, Google have enough feedback from toolbar users ( who uninstalled it ? ) stating that they don’t want the google toolbar to take up more space.
So, in the current format, it’s not wise to add Google Toolbar to Chrome … what you think ?
