Google Chrome 6 – Sync Extensions & Updated UI

by Dinu on 03/09/2010

photoGoogle has released Chrome 6 as on Chrome’s 2nd Birthday. Windows Linux and Mac versions have been updated. Most probably, Chrome has already been updated for you by now. If you do not see any change yet, try restarting it once, and you should be good.

Chrome 6 Portable Version Available Here.

Main Features of Chrome 6

  • Updated UI
  • Form Autofill
  • Syncing of extensions and Autofill data
  • Increased speed and stability

You will see a lot of changes in the browser user interface. You will see things missing, including the go button :) . There was a lot of fuzz about it gone in the testing community. I would like to know your thoughts about it, here in comments. And yes, in case you want it back, you can do that with an extension.

But one thing that you might want to check out right away, is Extensions sync. It is an awesome feature. Along with Syncing of autofill data, a stable Google Chroming experience is guaranteed across n number of systems you have it installed on, or even when you install it back after formatting the system, or start using it from a different location.

Share your experience with Chrome 6 here ! and I am sure you have already noticed, if you are a regular reader here, you already knew about all these new features …. :)

I’ve been using the beta for a while, this is definitely one of my favorite releases. I wasn’t using very many extensions before v6 because I’m using a ton of different computers and it was a huge pain to keep them in sync. Now I can manage all of my extensions simultaneously, huge help! The UI update is also really nice. I wasn’t too happy with the color change from blue to gray, but a blue theme fixed that pretty quickly.

thank you for your comment !

well, I have a feeling that chrome default theme’s journey from light blue to dark blue shows stages of getting close to chromium OS … chromium os has dark blue theme.. . and with each update, chrome is becoming dark blue in color ..

Hey, where did you get the blue theme? I’m too not very happy with that gray toolbar, but I can’t find a design that’s near to the old lightblue appearance.

Thank you! That’s it. I still have no clue what the Chrome developers had in mind when doing the gray theming … btw, here is a ‘blue’ extension for Chrome on Windows I found meanwhile: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/ilkecpolncpdeefgdlnhmmdghkmonfkk?hl=en-US#

Iam on dev channel, so I have already version 7. But nice for the guys who have the stable. At the moment, I don’t use more than one computer, but when school starts, I have this nice feature.

Should make gone go button and new icons optional. Also should allow dragging of star.

sounds ok, but aren’t extensions enough ?

and eventually extension support for in the bookmarkbar, I think developers could do nice things with that bar.
And of course, bookmarkmanager with favicon support, hahaha :P

any idea, of an extension that can make bookmarks bar better ? or add a feature ?

an extension that puts info on that bar. like a clock for example. But what u say, extensions that could make the bar better, are also nice :P like favicon support :P

aren’t favicons supported now ?

I mean, add or change favicon’s of bookmarked links. Because some of mine are that white default favicon’s. And I don’t like it.
