Bookmarks Menu Extension for Google Chrome

by Dinu on 23/06/2010

This is a guest post by Panda, one of my regular readers. He is sharing one of his favorite extensions, that saves screen space and gives some extra features while using Bookmarks. Thanks Panda, for sharing this with all of us !

Hi all. Recently, I read on Chromestory about a new bookmark button that brings up a bookmark menu. I was glad that they were adding such a feature; I’ve been looking for it in extension form before I even read about it.

If you want to try out this new feature without using a nightly build/dev version, download the extension here. I find it extremely useful. In case you haven’t read about it, the feature is that there is a button next to the Page and Wrench Menu that when clicked brings up a bookmarks menu.

Since one of Chrome’s main features is to save screenspace, having your bookmarks easily accessable without the bookmarks bar is great. So go ahead, give it a try!

Install it from Here

Features and How to Use it

1. To open bookmark in current tab click by left mouse button.
2. To open bookmark in new tab:
click by middle mouse button
or click by left mouse button with Ctrl key pressed.
3. To open bookmark in new tab and switch to it click by middle mouse button with Shift key pressed.
4. To open bookmark in new window click by left mouse button with Shift key pressed.
5. To open all bookmarks in folder click by middle button on folder.
6. To display context menu click by right mouse button.

On options panel you can hide some bookmarks or folders. It might be useful if you use bookmark synchronization between different computers. If your monitor is too small, you can change popup window size and font size on options panel.

Enjoy !

As far as I know, you do not need a nightly build or a dev\beta version for the native feature. It exists in the stable version as well, you just have to specify a command line switch.

Thanks for this helpful extension! I tried it out, but actually prefer Neat Bookmarks: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/nnancliccjabjjmipbpjkfbijifaainp

Also, just wanted to note that the command-line switch mentioned above no longer works apparently, so we’re all stuck using one of these extensions.
