Google Chrome’s Full Profile Sync Lands on Chromium Dev Builds

by Dinu on 08/04/2010

Okay guys, we are almost there. Google Chrome’s Full Profile sync which we are all excited about, has landed in the early Dev builds of Chromium. This will eventually be moved to Google Chrome Dev version ( This feature is now available on Google Chrome Dev version. ) , then to beta, and finally to Stable versions.

With this feature enabled, we will be able to sync our profiles in multiple computers. Stuff that you get to sync are preferences, Bookmarks ( which we already have ) and Autofill. You can select which one you need sync for and disable the rest.

Here is something interesting about this new feature. All the information collected to sync your profile is saved in Google Docs !

Now, my question to all of you is, can we call this “full” profile sync  or are we missing something here ? Like, themes  ( My friend PhistucK updates that theme sync has landed as well ), extensions etc ? What do you think ?

Drop your thoughts in the comment form, and stay tuned for more news about this feature !

Does this include searches? That’s the primary thing [beyond bookmarks] I’m concerned with syncing. I couldn’t much care less about preferences / autofill myself. ( I don’t allow my browser(s) to remember passwords )

Update : I just tested this feature on the Dev version of chrome, “AutoFill” is among things that you get to sync .. will that work for you ?

No, as I said–I don’t care about autofill. I don’t want my user names and credit card numbers saved in plain sight . . .

I can’t believe searches didn’t make it in but something as silly as theme sync DID. I have dozens of searches with custom shortcuts for them, like bookmarks it’s something I’ve invested time into and should be syncronized. What reason is there for syncing “Themes” — and why is it plural, you can only install one theme at a time if I’m not mistaken? It takes me what, two clicks to re-install the them on another computer if I bookmark it?

Have you checked that the search engines are not synchronized in the latest Dev release?
Since it is part of the preferences, I expect it to be synchronized, too, sooner or later.
They are still working on this feature (after all, Chrome 5 is not out to stable yet). They are adding more preferences that will be synchronized, not all of them were initially synchronized.

Do not despair. :)
