New Bookmarks icon on Chrome Toolbar

by Dinu on 16/04/2010

On Recent Dev builds of Chromium and chrome – a small but interesting icon has been added. It gives easy access to all your bookmarks. This will be helpful when added to stable versions, for us to access our bookmarks with a single muse click.

Have  a look

Chrome Bookmarks icon

If you want to see this small feature added to your chromium or chrome dev version, you can add –bookmark-menu flag to your chomium shortcut on desktop, and it will work fine.

Small step, but will prove really useful to many of us !

And why to have twice a tool for bookmarks? With “Other bookmarks” is enough, plus I like the way you dragged to this folder to add new ones. Who needs an extension doing the same again? Mmm… another aggregate that is not going to like it if they intend to enforce it at the stable version.

You will not have to have it twice. Not everyone turns on the bookmarks bar, because it uses precious real estate.

Because “not everyone turns on the bookmarks” I have to see the icon and the folder? Again, it will not be a good idea if they think that by imposing something the people are going to be happy. It seems that Google don’t learn about some things…

I understand your concern.

but I wanted to make one thing clear. This feature is not even added to developer versions by default. This is still an experiment.

I was simply bringing this to light to see peoples reactions, and also because I saw people’s interest in knowing future features planned for chrome, in a recent poll here.

Well, it’s all right then. I’m another big fan of Google products and sometimes we get a little fussy and demanding, but certainly the changes will be favorable, as they ever were. Google offers solutions, and that’s what I like about this company. Thank you for responding and report it.

You are somewhat late, it has been there since more than a year ago.
What is new – is that they plan to either remove this feature completely, or add a user interface for it, probably by Chrome 6.

Is this function not already implemented in an extension?
I understand some people didn’t have the bookmarkbar always open. But their is already an extension doing precisly the same thing. I hope we can disable this feature. Google Chrome wants to minimalistic, So every button I not use, can be disabled I hope.
