Google Chrome To Add “Translation Bar” – Built in Translation

by Dinu on 16/02/2010

Added : If you are searching for a way to disable this feature, click here to know HOW :)

When I knew that Google do not have plans to add its popular Google Tool Bar to Chrome, I had a doubt that they are going to add most of it’s features in to Google Chrome by default, or “Built in”.

Recently, I got another sign of it, when I found ” Translation Bar” in the latest dev build that I am using ( yep,  I am using the developer version, to bring you the latest to you :D ).  When you open a website, in a language other than your default language, the translation bar will popup on the top, suggesting you to view the translated version of the page.

See the screenshot. Click on the image to zoom in.

You may get this even if a part of the website is in a different language. You can close the translation bar clicking on “X” icon on it. However, I am yet to find an option to disable the translation bar for the entire browser. But yes, this is still bring developed, and we will soon see those options.

the inbuilt translating bar is useful, but, maybe I need the single word translation function even more.

as a matter of fact, the single word translating extensions are available on the Google extensions, but I think it is not very convenient, because they are not support Mouse-over+Shift(or Ctrl,.etc) to translate, which is efficient to me.

I only want to know how I can turn off the feature. I read, German, French, Spanish and a couple of more languages, and this very annoying translation bar keeps popping up every time, no matter how many times I click “Disable XXX translation”. Of course, I want to keep the feature for some other languages. Can anybody help?

I’ve been looking for a single word translator, and came across this one – a patched version of Google Dictionary extension. Seems to be quite usable.
